The Mazda CX-9 has been selected as a finalist for both the 2017 World Car of the Year Award and the 2017 World Car Design of the Year. If this vehicle takes home the win it will be the second year in a row that a Mazda vehicle has claimed both of these awards with the Mazda MX-5 Miata receiving both those titles in 2016. “We couldn’t be more honored to have CX-9 recognized for two World Car of the Year categories,” said Masahiro Moro, president and CEO, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO). “Last year was a magical moment for the entire Mazda family when MX-5 won, and we’re proud to be among the small number of vehicles voted to the finalists lists from markets all over the world.” The second-generation version of this model was first released last Spring. It is equipped with a  turbocharged SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine, rigid SKYACTIV-CHASSIS and SKYACTIV-BODY, a responsive SKYACTIV-TRANSMISSION, and available predictive i-ACTIV all-wheel drive. Additionally, this model is the first in the Mazda lineup to be adorned with the Machine Gray Metallic premium paint color. The Mazda brand is celebrating a 10.1 percent increase in sales as their January total came to 21,698 units sold for the month. This now officially makes this their best January sales since 2012, meaning that the brand is on pace to start off 2017 on a high note. The Mazda CX-9 was by far the biggest seller in January with sales reaching 8,068 units making this the model’s best-ever January. In all, this total represents a year-over-year increase of 14.2 percent. The Mazda CX-9 on the other had was the model with the highest year-over-year increase as sales for this vehicle were up 210.7 percent to reach 1,591 units sold throughout January. Since its debut at the LA Auto Show in November, there has been a ton of buzz around the 2017 CX-5 from Mazda. The compact crossover has a design that’s reminiscent of the larger CX-9 and adds a more refined style. And, as with any new model, after its release, the public had tons of questions, which Mazda did their best to answer. The term “All-New” is thrown around a lot. Is it really “All-New”? While it may share some DNA with the 2016 model, we assure you there have been many changes for the 2017 model year. The engine, transmission, and new ball-bearing on all-wheel drive models are just the start. What is it being benchmarked against? For the most part, creators looked to the larger CX-9. The CX-5 includes a lot of the sound absorption technology to dampen outside noise that the CX-9 has. The CX-5 was then not only tested against its predecessor but level-above rivals as well. Does it have the features we’re looking for? How does this sound: Standard LED headlights and tail lights (same as the MX-5 Miata and CX-9), available power liftgate, full-speed active cruise control, available windshield-projected head-up display, available heated rear seats, heated steering wheel and USB charging ports. Is that red paint actually available? Yes! The Soul Red Crystal paint color was created to show off the subtle curves of the CX-5. It is an estimated 20-percent brighter and has a 50-percent greater depth than the models before it. When can I get one? Mazda North American Operations has proven, once again, that they are at the top of their game when it comes to producing and delivering a high-quality vehicle lineup to their customers in the U.S. Just recently, the Mazda brand received their second consecutive “Best Car Brand” title from U.S. News & World Report. According to the publication, the Mazda brand beat out their competitors for the second time due to the “well-made interiors and driving dynamics” offered in the vehicles in the Mazda lineup. The Best Vehicle Brands winners are determined based on the results of an evaluation of all the different vehicles offered by each brand.
