Spooky and Strange Places to Visit for Halloween

Looking to add a little more fright to your Halloween celebrations this year? If so, you’re in luck. New York is one of the oldest states in the country, meaning that there are plenty of places to give you the heebee jeebees near Queensbury, Glens Falls, Saratoga, Clifton Park and Albany, NY.
NYS Capitol Building– Albany, NY
Starting right in our state’s capitol, there have been reports of paranormal activity and ghostly sightings all over the historic building. Including that of Samuel Abbott, a night watchman that died in a 1911 fire, that somehow didn’t touch any of the sacred Iroquois artifacts.
The Knox Mansion– Johnstown, NY
Said to be haunted by builder Charles Knox, the site is recommended by the Haunted History Trail. There are also ghost tours and guided visits available. Experience range from flickering lights and cold spots to disembodied footsteps and visions of ghosts.
Loudon Cottage– Loudonville, NY
If you’re a history buff, you’ll love this place. There have been reports of seeing the ghost of Abraham Lincoln who visited this summer home that was owned by Clara Harris, the woman sitting next to him when he died. It’s said that she kept her blood stained dress in her closet and one day walked in to see the dead president sitting in a rocking chair.

2016 Mazda6 Suggested for Teen Drivers

Gathering the strength to be comfortable with your teen driving might not come right away, it might not come after a few years either. Either way, the truth is once they hit 16, most kids in Queensbury, Glens Falls, Saratoga, Clifton Park, and Albany, NY are chomping at the bit to get behind the wheel. And as long as they earn that privilege, you won’t have much say in the matter for long. Something that would give just about any parent peace of mind, is knowing that they’re behind the wheel of a vehicle that’s been deemed safe by an accredited source, like Edmunds.com.
One such vehicle is the 2016 Mazda6. It was mentioned on their list of the 10 Best Cars for Teen Drivers earlier this year, and we have it here at DELLA Mazda. According to the website, parents that chose this vehicle for their teens that love to drive would “be a hero”. And while that’s fine, we’re sure as a parent you’re more interested in the safety aspects.
The 2016 Mazda6 is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ thanks to its active front head restraints and automatic emergency notification systems that are standard on all trim levels. If you’d like to learn more about the safety features, trim levels, or transmission options, check out the Research & Review page we have dedicated to it. You can also schedule a test drive and look into your lease and finance options while you’re there.

Drowsy Driving is Dangerous

According to a 2005 poll conducted by the National Sleep Foundation, 60% of adult drivers (about 168 million people) say that they have been behind the wheel while feeling drowsy. What makes this information so concerning is the fact that driving when you’re tired is comparable to driving while intoxicated. It creates slow reaction times, poor judgement and decision making. Because of this, it’s estimated that 100,000 police-reported crashes have occurred, resulting in about 1,550 deaths, 71,000 injuries and $12.5 billion in monetary losses. That begs the question, how can drowsy driving be avoided altogether? Well, we have a few suggestions below:
Start by getting enough sleep. While the amount varies from person to person, it’s suggested that adults get 7-9 hours and teens get 8 ½-9 ½ hours of sleep each night.
Schedule your stops. You should be taking a break every 100 miles or two hours, whichever comes first.
Avoid alcohol and medications. Alcohol interacts with fatigue much like drinking on an empty stomach does, and some medications can do the same.
Take a travel buddy. If you’re taking a longer trip, having someone in the vehicle with you is ideal. You can switch off drivers and will have someone to talk to, helping you stay alert.

Trunk Or Treat in Crandall Park

If you’re not thrilled about the idea of bringing your child from one stranger’s house to the next to collect candy on Halloween, we have a fun alternative! On Sunday, October 25, at 2pm, in Crandall Park, there will be Trunk or Treat! Similar to the Trick or Treating that we’re used to, kids will dress up in costume while participants hand out candy. The difference is that instead of decorating houses and expecting kids to wander neighborhoods, they decorate their vehicles and stay safely in one area, usually a parking lot that’s closed off for the event.
This event will have a costume parade, candy, and treats for children in fifth grade and younger. Admission will be $1 per person which will be donated to support Warm The Children, a regional drive that provides winter clothing for children in need. Come take part in a great cause and a lot of fun!

Take Care of Your Car This Fall
It is officially Fall and that means it is time for all things that this season has to offer such as multi-colored leaves, pumpkin spice, and apple cider. Not all the changes of this time of year are as exciting though, for example, the weather and road conditions. Therefore, you will need to make sure that your vehicle is ready to take on the Fall by checking over a few key systems to see what may need maintenance or updating. Below we have a few tips from the Car Care Council to help you get your vehicle in top shape as the seasons change.
1.) Windshield Wiper Blades – Wiper blades are especially important during the fall and winter months as you are clearing leaves, frost, and eventually, snow off your window. Take a moment to look at the condition your blades are in at the start of the season so that you don’t have to struggle with ineffective blades later when you really need them.
2.) Tires – Tires are other key vehicle parts that you might want to look into replacing during the fall. Once again, these next few months will bring more severe weather and you want to make sure that your tires have the traction to keep you traveling steadily on those icy and snow-covered roads. Make sure the tread depth of your tires is still optimal and be sure to have them rotated and realigned.
3.) HVAC System – Since we are just coming off the summer the odds are that you have it tested out the heating system in your car recently. Make sure you turn on the heat and check that everything is filtering and ventilating properly. You would rather spot a problem now rather than realize your car is not warming up once the temperature really starts to drop.
4.) Brakes – Check the fluid levels to see that they are all properly filled and look for signs of wear on the drums, rotors, and linings.
5.) Battery and Charging System – Car batteries tend to need replacing every few years so if yours is more than three years old then you should definitely have it tested. Check its effectiveness and look for signs of corrosion while also making sure all the connections are clean and tight. This is important because the last thing you want to be faced with on a cold morning is a vehicle that won’t start because the battery is dead.
